THE former Age Concern Centre, in Honiton, is unlikely to re-open as a public hall in the foreseeable future.Despite being used as a polling station for last Thursday's European and Devon County Council elections, the British Red Cross Society, which owns the building and a smaller hall behind it, says the venue is likely to remain shut for some time. Age Concern closed the centre at a week's notice, citing a damning fire safety report.A spokeswoman for the Red Cross said: "We are not planning to do the necessary work immediately."We are waiting for a surveyor's report."Once we have received that, the future usage of the building can be discussed."Even if the hall is earmarked to re-open, there will be a delay. The spokeswoman added: "We will have to use public funds, given through donations, so this work may not be done for some time.
