HONITON Hospital League of Friends is seeking more volunteers to help run the hospital shop and man a tea trolley.Around 50 volunteers currently carry out a variety of tasks at the hospital - from reception work in the physiotherapy department to filing in the maternity unit, says volunteer co-ordinator Anne Macphail. She says voluntary help at the hospital helps health professionals, like nurses, get on with what they do best, caring for patients."People are also doing a morning or afternoon in the shop," said Anne."I am flexible about volunteer hours but prefer regular hours, if possible."The reason why I have two people doing the tea trolley is because it's company and offers continuity if one is on holiday."Patients appreciate the service, because it is nice to see someone not in uniform."The hospital shop is open 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. It stocks handmade cards, soft drinks, toiletries, good quality books, confectionery and biscuits. If you can spare a few hours a week to help at the hospital, contact Anne on (01460) 234099.
