Honiton Library could become a part of world record history when this year’s Summer Reading Challenge kicks off.
The scheme, which encourages youngsters to read six books over the summer holidays, has the theme of ‘record breakers’ for 2015. Linda Isaacson, supervisor at Honiton Library, said she and her team will be asking people to make a ‘reading pledge’ on Saturday, July 11, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, in an attempt to be part of a world record attempt.
Organisers of the Summer Reading Challenge are trying to break the record for most reading pledges made in one day.
Linda said: “We will be hoping that everybody of every age will do a reading pledge and fill in a library card.
“Your pledge can be as simple as promising to read six books during the summer holidays, or for adults, even ten pages a day.”
Honiton-based bloodbikes charity Devon Freewheelers will be counting the pledges on the day, and will be bringing in some of their bikes to the library.
Linda added: “This is the first time ever we will have a motorbike in the library!”
