A Honiton mental health group which provides peer support has celebrated its first birthday.

Open Arms East Devon was launched by resident Garry Wakeham last year, following a mental breakdown caused by the death of his son Steven, 32, in 2016.

The group gives people suffering from mental health problems a safe place to interact and partake in group activities.

Garry was joined by town councillors, including mayor Councillor John Zarczynski, and trustees of the group in Honiton to celebrate the group’s first birthday.

Honiton town councillor Mike Jones said: “It is hard to believe Open Arms has been running a year.

“The town council will endeavour to help support it through the next.”

Open Arms East Devon operates from Dunning Court, in Honiton, every Tuesday and Friday, from 10.30am to 4pm.
