Duo complete the Pretty Muddy Challenge to raise £1,305 for Cancer Research UK

Two determined Honiton women were among hundreds of females who fought their way through a muddy obstacle course – raising more than £1,000 for cancer research.

Lauren Moore, 22, and Abbie Munt, 20, who work at Specsavers in Honiton, completed the 5k Pretty Muddy challenge at Exeter’s Westpoint Showground recently. The non-competitive event is a women-only race held by Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

The duo have been raising funds throughout the year for the charity, with the help of colleagues, and have, so far, totalled £1,305.41. Their fundraising activities included weekly cake sales at the store, a book stall, a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ competition and the sponsored race.

Abbie, who works as an optical assistant, said: “We did a bit of training, but for us the race was more about doing something worthwhile for a charity that we know will help everyone at some point. It was such a great experience and we had lots of fun. We got absolutely filthy on the mudslide at the end!”

Store director Stephen Auty said: “Lauren and Abbie have done a fantastic job to raise such an impressive amount of money for charity.”
