Honiton PCSO wins award for outstanding work

Police Community Support Officer Sue Rowe, from Honiton, received a special certificate of merit for outstanding contributions to the community when organisations involved in tackling crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour met at Broadclyst recently.

Community Safety Officer for East Devon, Gerry Moore, said she had put a huge amount of effort into setting up drop-in groups and a homework club as well as proactively reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour. The idea of the meeting was to show- case their activities and the positive impact it is having.

Members of the public, Neighbourhood Watch members and staff from a wide variety of organisations, attended the annual meeting of the East & Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership at Broadclyst Village Hall on April 21. The Partnership includes the police, district councils, fire service, probation service, health and youth/education services, but also voluntary and community groups.

There was a series of short presentations from those involved in tackling these issues, including youth workers, those working to prevent domestic abuse, police officers, and members of local action groups.

Gerry Moore said: "The partnership invited members of the community to see for themselves the work taking place across the two districts. We are extremely pleased that over a hundred people attended our event.

"There are lots of dedicated staff and volunteers working together to resolve local issues and this gives us a chance to recognise those positive activities."

Another certificate of merit went to Exmouth Night Shift, represented by Mick Cox. Nightshift is a voluntary church group providing help and support for people in distress on the streets of Exmouth on Saturday nights.

Both also received �100 from the Partnership towards future community activities.
