Six years for man who raped and harassed woman he met online.

A Honiton man, who raped a woman he met through an online dating site, has been jailed for six years.

Nigel Wilson, 33, raped the Somerset woman shortly after he was released from prison for harassing five women he met on the same site.

The mum was raped in her own bedroom while her children were at home.

They met through Facebook’s link to a Plenty of Fish page.

The pair started a relationship but one day Wilson “went too far”, Taunton Crown Court heard.

When the victim broke off the relationship, he started to harass her with text messages.

Patrick Mason, defending, said Wilson’s behaviour was a result of bitterness from the breakdown of a previous relationship.

Mr Mason told the court: “He can’t explain why he behaved in this way over the last three years or so. His parents are thoroughly decent people and share the bafflement.

“His siblings are law abiding citizens and are confounded by his behaviour.”

Wilson met the woman in April this year and raped her on May 2.

He pleaded guilty to breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, but had denied rape and harassment.

Judge Richard Bromilow, in sentencing Wilson to prison, said: “It is quite clear you and she enjoyed, over a period of time, a consensual relationship.

“But there came a time, very clearly, and the jury accepted this, when she said no. You ignored it.

“You abused her terribly in her own home, in her own bedroom, with her young children nearby.”

Words Wilson used in the text messages were described by the judge as “shameful and appalling”.

Wilson was jailed five years for rape, 12 months for harassment, to run concurrently, and a consecutive sentence of 18 months for breaching the order.
