Fraudulent letters say funds are available to the recipient - police say they are investigating.

Residents in Honiton are being asked to remain vigilant in the wake of a new ‘through the door’ scam circulating in the area.

Honiton PCSO Sue Rowe said: “It has been reported that several householders have had handwritten notes put through their door commenting on their property.

“The content of the letter suggests that there are funds available and to contact a local Honiton town councillor.

“We would like to inform anyone that has received one of these notes it is a scam. This is being investigated and has also been reported to the fraud department.”
