Peter Halse has been named Honiton Chamber of Commerce’s Honitonian of the Year.

Honiton’s former mayor has been recognised for his lifelong commitment to the town.

Peter Halse, who switched on Honiton’s Christmas lights this year, was surprised by the chamber of commerce, who presented him with its inaugural Honitonian of the Year Award and certificate.

Tony McCollum, chairman of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “Peter has worked hard for this town for the last 50 years, both through his business as an employer and his activities through the church, Honiton Town Council and his district and county roles.

“We are delighted to award Peter this first Honitonian award, which recognises individuals who have worked for most of their lives for the good of Honiton.”

The chamber is currently preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary next year, and is working on sourcing new flagpoles and flags for the town’s High Street and New Street.
