The May bank holiday is gearing up to be a weekend to remember with Honiton’s very first Sausage and Cider Festival.

Honiton Sausage and Cider Festival, which is being organised by the Honiton Foundation, takes place on Saturday, May 3, at the Old Honiton Agricultural Showgrounds, Langford Road, and will be raising funds for local charity Devon Freewheelers along with other local causes.

It features music from headliners The Wurzels, Sweet Black Angels, Fools and Horses, Diamondogz, 4 King Dwarphz, singer songwriters Lydia Capon and Ollie Bowern.

Dan Lavery, one of the festival’s organisers, said: “The big message is tickets are selling out. Get your tickets now or you will be disappointed.”

The festival will feature plenty of local food and drink to tantalise the taste buds.

FSC Exeter Honiton Muay Thai will be attempting to set the record for the most Muay Thai clinch knee kicks in an hour.

The festival will also feature a fun fair, a birds of prey static display, face painting and a display of vehicles courtesy of Honiton Hill Rally and much more.

Honiton town crier Dave Retter has invited fellow criers from across the country to take part in a special competition during the Sausage and Cider Festival. The first round of the town crier competition will take place outside St Paul’s Church at 10.30am. This will be followed by the second and deciding round on the main festival stage from around 1.45pm. The winners will be presented with trophies.

A shuttle minibus service will be running throughout the day, courtesy of Kevin Crudge of Stamps Coaches, picking up at the bus stop outside Lace Walk from 8am to midnight.

Tickets are on sale at Honiton Information Centre, Honiton Toy Shop, Wing Hong Chinese, and the Paper Shop in New Street. Alternatively, they can be purchased from the festival stall at Honiton street market. Tickets will not be available to purchase on the gate on the day of the festival. Also, they are available online by visiting http://honitonfestival.org/

A three day e-ticket registration is being held on Wednesday, April 30, until Friday, May 2, at the Devon Freewheelers headquarters at Durham Way on the Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton. Festival-goers can bring along their e-tickets and pick up their coloured entry wristbands to avoid waiting on the gate on the day. Alternatively, festival-goers can get their wristbands at the Sausage and Cider Festival stall at Honiton market on April 26 and 29. Marshals and volunteers are still needed on the day.
