The stamps have raised around £260,000 for Hospiscare since 1992.

A Honiton shop owner is appealing to the community to keep donating used stamps to help Hospiscare.

Alan Rowe MBE, who runs Alan Rowe Barbering in High Street, originally launched an appeal in 1992 to help Tony Coop, who deals in used and unused stamps for the end-of-life charity.

Throughout the 24 years since, around £260,000 has been raised towards Hospiscare’s work.

Mr Rowe, who is also the founder of Honiton-based military charity The Baton, said: “Our shop has had a great input into that total, something we are all proud of.

“Recently, we received the fantastic delivery of stamps, donated by a very kind friend of the shop.

“The funds raised from these stamps will be of fantastic help supporting the hospice and our community nurses.

“We have a big plastic dustbin in the shop that people know to put stamps in. We call Tony when we have a good amount collected and he picks them up. It’s good to be able to ask for something that people normally throw away that can really make a difference to a local cause.

“I am so proud of the shop’s staff and clientele, who have been unselfishly loyal in their support of our efforts to put something back into the community over our 24 years.”
