A Honiton sweet shop has closed its doors for good after just more than a year of trading.

The Chocolate Box, in New Street, is now empty and a ‘To Let’ sign has been placed in the shop front.

Formerly run by Carrie Holdsworth, who grew up in Honiton, the shop sold a wide selection of confectionery as well as running a sweets delivery service.

In an interview with Archant’s East Devon Resident magazine last year, Carrie said trade was good and she hoped it would pick up,

Speaking at the time, she said: “Hopefully, trade will continue to increase once people realise we are here and the range we offer.”

Colin Wright, president of Honiton Chamber of Commerce, expressed his disappointment over the shop’s closure.

He said: “It’s very frustrating to see another shop has closed in New Street.

“We are trying to keep all the shops open and vibrant, so it’s obviously concerning that we have to now try and find a client to take on another vacant unit.”
