A sixth-form Honiton student who had been offered a place by four different universities killed himself at his family home.

An inquest heard that Honiton Community College A-level student Jack Haigh, 18, was described as ‘bright, studious and creative’.

His mother Hilary told the inquest, at Exeter’s County Hall, that her youngest son ‘felt low related to his studies’ but there was no indication that he would self-harm.

Jack’s mother found him when she returned home one afternoon in November 2017.

The inquest heard he had been texting a friend just three hours earlier and again there was nothing to indicate what he was going to do.

The senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney said Jack ‘died as a result of his own actions’.

The inquest conclusion was suicide.
