A stylish three-day fundraiser put on by Tesco Honiton recently netted more than £800 for end-of-life charity Hospiscare.

The tweed weekend event, fronted by the store’s services and community manager Duncan Sheridan-Shaw and community champion Louisa Littlewood, saw staff dress up in tweed garments.

Generous shopper donations saw the store achieve a grand total of £870, which will be put towards Hospiscare’s upcoming A Jolly Good Jaunt event on Sunday, October 4 (see page eight for details).

Mr Sheridan-Shaw said: “All weekend, we had staff dressing up in tweed, various prize raffles and other fun events going on in-store.

“We had an extra ten to 15 people sign up for the walk which is excellent for Hospiscare.

“We have also got roughly 35 members of staff who will be taking part on the day.

“It was great fun, everyone had a really good time. The total is a fantastic figure - we did not think we would get anywhere near that.

“We did not have a target - just to raise the profile for the walk. Thank you to all of our shoppers and those who donated - it just goes to show what we can do as a community.”

Charlotte Knipe, Hospiscare fundraiser, added: “I can’t thank Tesco Honiton enough for the wonderful opportunity we had at the weekend to promote our event.

“We were overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm of Duncan and his team, the Honiton Hospiscare Support Group, and the amazing generosity of shoppers.

“Tesco donated a Finest hamper and its community champion Louisa made a really beautiful tweed cake which were both raffled.

“There was a really great atmosphere in the store and shoppers were very happy to support Kings House and our local services across East Devon.

“I met many people who have already signed up and are excited about the day and asking about where they can get their tweed from as well as lots of sign-ups over the weekend. With almost 300 people signed up, this year’s event will be bigger and better than before, and will raise the vital funds needed to continue supporting local people with life-limiting illnesses.

“There is still time to join us in Jaunting for Hospiscare.”

Mary Bolshaw, chairman of Honiton Hospiscare Support Group, said she was ‘thrilled’ with the total and thanked all who helped.
