D Wareham, of Cucina, in High Street, has told the Herald in a letter that the owners of Banwell Antiques and Countrylines were among those to "hack away at the ice".
"I joined in and, at one stage, the snow was falling quicker than we could clear it."
Traders have pointed out pavements are not their responsibility but that, when councils fail to grit paths, they do their bit to make them safe.
