ON the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, Honiton twinners were guests of their counterparts in Mezidon, Normandy. The twinners say they received wonderful hospitality, and enjoyed the Normandy countryside at its best. A highlight of the visit was a tour of the D-Day beaches, a sombre reminder of the fierce fighting that took place upon them 65 years ago. A spokesperson for Honiton Twinning Association said: "We were also entertained as guests at a series of inaugural concerts at Mezidon's new community hall. "This is an impressive 3.2 million euro auditorium with flexible arrangements for all kinds of concerts and audiences. "We heard Bootleg Abba and a marvellous sixty piece wind orchestra. "Well done, Mezidon!"We hope to entertain our Mezidon hosts as visitors next year."The association goes from strength to strength, with a small council grant, supplemented by members' own active funds-raising events. Information leaflets about the association will be in Honiton Library soon. In the meantime, anyone interested in finding out more about the association can contact the secretary on (01404) 43012.
