Major investment in town’s water supply by South West Water.
SOUTH West Water says it is part-way through a major �3.5million scheme to reline and replace water mains in Honiton.
The aim of the investment is to improve water quality.
Since April, the company has renewed 11.6kms of water main.
Graham Murphy, South West Water’s director of engineering, said: “We take great pride in delivering the best quality drinking water to our customers. Old, corroded water mains sometimes meant our water was not always arriving in the condition we would like.
“Relining and replacing the water mains in Honiton will help ensure everyone gets a sparkling glass of refreshing water when they turn on the taps, cutting down incidents of discolouration and enabling us to reduce chlorine levels. The work will also prolong the life of the mains.”
Planned disruptions to services have affected businesses in New Street.
Last week, Honiton Library was closed from Monday evening to Friday afternoon.
It is understood by the Midweek Herald that further work is planned, for High Street, but not until next year.
