Celebrations under way as Age UK Devon bid gets your vote for more than £43,000 in lottery cash.

Honiton is celebrating tonight after winning more than £43,000 in lottery funding in a Jubilee People’s Millions bid.

Submitted by Age UK Devon, in association with Honiton Memory Cafe, the Heading Along Memory Lane project got the people’s vote in a contest run in association with ITV.

News of the win was broadcast live on The West Country Tonight earlier.

Among those celebrating was Winnie Cameron, a founder supporter of Honiton Memory Cafe and a devoted wife of a dementia sufferer.

She told television audiences that the win would mean a lot to people with dementia in Honiton, the surrounding area and across Devon.

Celebrating with her was the team from Age UK Devon, whose members put their hearts and souls into the bid - to ensure a series of memorable days out, on a vintage bus, provide a shared experience for families affected by dementia.

Also seen on television, although keen to stay in the background, was the cafe’s hard working co-ordinator Min Rennolds.

Not seen, but a driving force behind the entire cafe project, was Heather Penwarden.
