DEMENTIA sufferers and their carers cannot wait until the end of next year to find out if The Bungalow in Honiton will re-open.

That is the opinion of Honiton Town Council after a public meeting heard recent changes will not be reviewed until late in 2011.

Ian Tulley and John Rom, of Devon NHS Partnership Trust, were told community hospitals are receiving patients with demantia and that staff were struggling to cope.

Now Honiton Town Council is to set up a working group to examine problems and to bring forward proposals.

Local GPs and hospital workers are to be invited to join the group.

Deputy mayor Councillor Vernon Whitlock is concerned The Bungalow was closed with no alternative service available in the community.

Councillor Alf Boom proposed the setting up the working group.

He told the town council’s June meeting that the Trust’s response to questions were not satisfactory.
