THE glove has gone up in Honiton, signifying what was once the start of the town’s traditional fair week.
Town crier Dave Retter led the ancient hot pennies ceremony, historically the highlight of the glove ritual. He was accompanied by Councillor Peter fleming, the Mayor of Honiton, and Councillor Vera Howard.
Coins were thrown from the balcony at The Bed Expert, The Three Tuns and The Volunteer.
Honiton is running out of venues to perform the ceremony, with yet another pub missing from the line-up this year - The White Lion.
Full story and more pictures will be published in next week’s Midweek Herald.
