Managing director of Baker Estates Ian Baker described it as a 'superb result'.

The developer behind plans to build 20 new homes in Seaton has welcomed the decision to approve the proposal.

Managing director of Baker Estates Ian Baker described it as a ‘superb result’.

Baker Estates will build the homes on Barnards Hill, including five affordable properties.

The aim is for the development to appeal to family buyers, with a range of three- and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses.

The development will also include three four-bedroom chalet bungalows, which will be aimed at those looking to downsize.

Located to the northern edge of the town, the development is located for convenient access to the town centre as well as the A3052 for onward travel to nearby Lyme Regis and Sidmouth.

Mr Baker said: “This superb result is a reflection of our high-quality plans and we can’t wait to get started on this fantastic new development in Seaton.

“We spent considerable time consulting the local community to make sure our new homes would be a positive addition to the town.

“They have been sensitively designed to blend in with Seaton’s architectural heritage, with attractive landscaped communal spaces also featuring throughout the development.”

Sharon Holder, sales and marketing director at Baker Estates, added: “Construction will commence shortly with a sales launch this autumn.

“Seaton is such a beautiful town, so we are expecting significant demand for these homes.”

The construction period, as previously reported, is estimated to take 12 months.

Baker Estates has plans to deliver up to 300 new homes a year by 2019 and the Barnards Hill site is the company’s second development in Seaton.

Construction work is already under way for 36 new homes in Rowan Drive, which received planning consent in March 2017.
