The former HSBC bank at 86 Honiton High Street could be converted into a Domino's Pizza parlour.

Third World Pizza LTD has submitted a planning application on behalf of Domino's Pizza to change the use of a bank to a hot food takeaway, as well as install extractor and ventilation equipment.

The building is three storeys. The ground floor was a branch of HSBC but closed in June, and is now empty. Domino's Pizza now wants to move in and open a store.

The takeaway will be open between 11am and 11pm daily. The site will have a customer waiting area at the front, a food prep area and cold room and a wash up, store room, open storage area and loo toward the back of the building.

An service yard at the back will provide space for bins. Delivery drivers will park at the rear, accessed from King Street. There are also on-street spaces at the front of the unit, which are restricted during certain times.

There are plenty of shops nearby, the SPAR convenience store next door and a sandwich shop on the other side. Lloyds Bank and Natwest are also nearby to the building. There are also several takeaway units: ‘Ali’s’ at 135a, ‘Wing Hong’ Chinese Takeaway 147 High Street, ‘Golden Palace’ 152 High Street, and ‘Chippee!’ 156 High Street.

But a planning officer said: "The proposed shop would continue to provide employment opportunities and economic activity at the site and thus the site would continue to provide a degree of social and economic benefit. The use would not cause undue harm to town centre viability or vitality or highway safety and with conditional controls in place to protect local amenities.".

The application has been submitted to EDDC, it will then be approved or refused by planning officers.
