The EDDC 85p per hour car park charge represents an increase from the former 80p. The previous charge allowed for a minimum of 20p. I regularly took advantage of this when using Axminster's West Street car park as this afforded sufficient time to nip into the centre of town to collect my wife's medication from the chemist and/or visit the Post Office. Last week my plans suggested 30p would be more appropriate, to avoid exceeding the authorised time. After unsuccessful attempts to obtain a ticket from two different machines, I discovered the minimum has now been increased to 50p! How on earth does EDDC justify this outrageously extortionate minimum? Units of 14 instead of 15 minutes are now yielded by 20p, so that minimum would remain convenient, yet we are required to pay for at least 35 minutes! This must also be material to the Co-op store, particularly in the light of FREE car parking having been restored at Tesco.Tony LawsMillbrook Dale Axminster
