Who is feeling secure?Another night of crime - vandals turn to burglary, police are appealing for witnesses. So where is the evidence from Honiton's CCTV cameras? Since their installation, various rumours have circulated Honiton over their effectiveness - from not working at all, no-one to look at the tapes, poor quality of images, and has anyone actually heard of a crime that has been solved with the use of the cameras? I think it is high time the police told us how effective they really are, and the town council needs to be honest about their 'value for money'. As I understand it, many businesses, including my own, paid a considerable sum towards the cameras in the hope we would be more protected, but we are still the victims, and the town council paid a sum of 10,000, equivalent to 10 per cent of the town precept for last year. Perhaps, it would be cheaper if the council had simply paid for the repairs to those premises damaged. D RevellKings MewsHoniton
