The petition will be sent to Paula Vennells, chief executive of Post Office Ltd.

More than 400 people have signed a petition to save Honiton Post Office from closure.

The Herald reported last month how the service could be moved and operate from another shop - such as WH Smith - after it was put up for franchise, alongside several other branches.

Since then, a petition has been launched on Change.org - a website which enables anyone, anywhere to start a petition, mobilise support, and win change on anything from local concerns to global issues.

The petition will be sent to Paula Vennells, chief executive of Post Office Ltd.

A part of the petition reads: “Honiton Post Office is a public service, where customer service is paramount.

“We must fight to keep our Crown office open, it should not be sacrificed for profit. This service belongs to the people of this country, it’s our postal system, it’s the People’s Post.”

So far, more than 420 people have signed the petition and several supporters from Honiton and its outlying villages have taken to the site to post messages and reasons as to why the service is important to them.
