Gill Day, 45, from Honiton, is personal assistant to Devon Freewheeler’s founder Daniel Lavery.

She joined the charity after 24 years of working for EDF Energy after redundancy enabled her to follow her dream of helping others and making a difference to people’s lives.

Gill, who is disabled and suffers with the rare disorder cauda equine syndrome, which affects her spinal cord nerves, learned about the charity after a chance meeting with Daniel and his wife, Shelley.

She felt compelled to help out after hearing how Daniel had sold his house to fund the lifeline service, which he offers for free.

Gill said: “About 18 months ago, I met Daniel and Shelley through a mutual friend and we just clicked.

“When Daniel told me about the charity, I thought it was amazing. I wanted to help because you never know when you might need the service.

“Being part of Devon Freewheelers, I can raise awareness of the charity, while doing something I enjoy; I am making a difference.”

Day-to-day, Gill’s tasks are to ensure the smooth running of the charity, taking the lead from Daniel, and also coming up with fundraising ideas and organising bingo sessions in the Honiton area.
