HAVING a small dog ourselves, we always ensure that he is picked up after and kept under control in areas where it is required. Being parents, we are aware of the dangers involved with loose dogs and their irresponsible owners who allow their animals to run completely free in areas where young children are playing. How can these owners be sure they have picked up after their dogs? How can they be sure that their dog will not come to any harm, or indeed cause a nuisance whilst it is not "under control? Letting dogs run off their leads is essential to a dog's health and welfare, there is no doubt about that, and I would not suggest that this be further restricted in our local green spaces. However, I for one, welcome the dog control order at the Glen, and having read the small article on page 5 last week, Injured at Glen, it seems there is a case to suggest that dog owners exercise more, closer control over their dogs. May I also suggest that, in designated areas, where dogs are allowed to run free, that there also be an order to bring animals under control should there be children playing in the designated area or when the dog is approaching them?
