New facility to be run by Otter Valley Dairy.

AN ICE cream parlour and cafe will be built near Honiton.

Plans for the facility, on land close to Aplins Farm in Monkton, were approved by district planners.

The new parlour, which will be operated by applicants Otter Valley Dairy, incorporate a cafe and retail and office space as well as a new access off an existing layby on the A30.

The award-winning family business currently serves ice cream from two sheds which are installed and dismantled in their field location.

Security, overheating, limited storage and a lack of indoor space were all issues highlighted by the dairy in its proposals.

The new parlour is arranged into two separate, linked buildings arranged around a courtyard garden.

It includes access into the field through an existing layby and 25 customer parking spaces.

During the busy summer months, the parlour is expected to open from 9am to 8pm.

Several trees will also be planted along the eastern edge of the buildings to take visitors into an “oasis” with a central garden and views of the surrounding countryside.

What the plans include

Cafe Building

• Ice cream parlour

• Servery

• Kitchen

• Seating space for a minimum of 80 customers

• Office

• Staff room

• Store

• WC
