One of Uplyme’s eldest residents has recorded her memories of family life in a new book.

Ida Quick was born in 1925 and has lived in the village all her life, recently celebrating her 93rd birthday.

For the past three years she has been telling the story of her family to Vivienne Graham, who also lives in Uplyme, and they decided to self publish a book.

‘From Cuckoo Lane to Newcastle’ is a firsthand account of 19th and 20th century social history told from the viewpoint of three women, Ida’s grandmother, her mother and herself.

Ida and Vivienne will be selling their book at Uplyme village hall, during various future events, including the Christmas coffee morning on Saturday, December 1.

It is priced at £9.99 and all profits from its sale will be donated to the village hall fund.

Meanwhile copies are now on sale at The Black Dog tearoom in Uplyme.
