Hundreds turn out to take part in protest march.

Protesters rallied to support a march in Feniton against the impact of national planning policy on rural areas and housing growth in the village of over 40 per cent.

Hundreds gathered to take part in the protest last Saturday, which was organised by Fight for Feniton’s Future and the East Devon Alliance.

A spokeswoman for East Devon Alliance said: “We had an excellent turnout, which reflects the depth of feeling not just in Feniton, but everywhere, when it comes to this Government’s ill-advised approach to planning.”

A ‘super inquiry’ is currently being held to look at three housing developments in the village. A planning inspector is considering appeals from the three developers against East Devon District Council’s refusal of planning permission.

The chairman of Feniton Parish Council, Martyn Smith, added: “The march was a real measure of how the people of Feniton and East Devon are totally fed up with the current planning framework and are willing to come out and make their feelings known.”

Local MP Neil Parish was also in attendance at the event.
