Vibrant colours, costumes and music roared into the streets of Seaton as the town welcomed back its carnival procession for another year.

More than 40 entries took part in the street show, which is the first event of the East Devon circuit.

Several groups of people also dressed up in style on the night, collecting money for various causes.

The procession was led by the Sea Cadets from Portland and other areas, and an escort from the Royal British Legion rider’s Branch.

Carnival helper June Millman said: “We were surprised at the huge calibre of the entries due to the fact that Sid Vale Carnival Club were unable to bring a big float.

“They did a small but beautiful walking entry instead and the Axminster Young Farmers also did a collection float for us.”

The total amount of money raised from the carnival is expected to be less than last year’s because the carnival’s annual street fair was rained off on Monday.

Usually held on Seaton Esplanade, the event had to be cancelled because of relentless rain and wind.

June added: “We would say collections are down this year, but we would like to thank everybody who did donate on the night.”

The next carnival takes place in Colyton on Saturday, September 13, followed by Axminster, Sidmouth, Newton Poppleford and Exmouth.
