AN INDEPENDENT report is being prepared by consultants on the viability of re-opening the Three Cups as a hotel in Lyme Regis.

AN INDEPENDENT report is being prepared by consultants on the viability of re-opening the Three Cups as a hotel in Lyme Regis.

Agents for hotel owners Palmers announced the news to campaigner John Dover in a letter.

The Save the Three Cups as a Hotel group member was told that company TRI Hospitality Consulting of London would looking into that specific issue.

The news comes prior to a public meeting, organised by the action group, to be held at 7pm on Friday, October 16, at Woodmead Halls.

Nigel Jones, of Chesterton Humberts, wrote: "We are aware of the perceived view from some people that the property could be viable as a hotel and, as a result, we have appointed specialist consultants to prepare and independent report on that issue."

Mr Jones added that when the independent report is available it will be disclosed to both the town and districts councils - and in the public domain.

Mr Dover said: "We welcome the news that the current owners are taking positive action, although belatedly, to seek independent specialist advice on the viability of reopening the Three Cups as a hotel.

"We are confident that their report will support the view currently held by leading hoteliers in Lyme and the overwhelming majority of Lyme residents that reopening it as a hotel is the best option - not only for the owners, but also for the local economy.
