Woodroffe party attracts former stduents from around the globe

A REUNION of former students of The Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis, at the week-end had an international flavour.

Among the attendance of over 250 at the school hall on Saturday evening were ex pupils and their partners

from various parts of the globe, including the USA and South Africa, while the reunion for members of the former madigral group were singers from as far afield as Amsterdam and Botswana.

Thirty or so madrigal singers, who performed at an animated get-together under the direction of Adrian Pearson on Saturday afternoon, won acclaim for sparkling concerts in several foreign countries at the height of their fame.

“It was heartening to be so well supported and to see so many meeting up with former schoolfriends and exchanging memories,” said John Broom, chairman of the organising Woodroffe Association.

“My committee worked very hard to promote this four yearly event, and we are encouraged by the obvious affection that so many people have for their old school.”

Every former student present on Saturday night received an inscribed commemorative glass and qualified for a free entry in a raffle for a 250 holiday voucher to be redeemed at Your World Travel, owned and run by former student Sue Langdon.

It was won by Mrs Shelagh Weeks (nee Patterson), of Chichester.

Sixth formers conducted tours of the school premises on Sunday morning after a service lead by former deputy Woodroffe head John Haylock who gave an inspiring address on the very special standards and endearing qualities associated with the comprehensive on the hill.

The service concluded with a hearty rendition of the school song.
