Honiton Primary School aims to get four iPads in every classroom.

Honiton Primary School is taking learning into the digital age to enhance opportunities for pupils.

The school is appealing to businesses in the community to sponsor iPads to help it on its way to becoming an Apple School.

Philippa Clifford-Davis, who has been heading up the appeal to local businesses, says the goal is to have four iPads in every classroom and purchase the latest software for the tablet computers.

She said: “As a parent at Honiton Primary School I want my children to have the best opportunities in life, a life which will inevitably include technology.

“By bringing iPads into the each classroom we are enabling children to not only build confidence in using technology but also experience the innovation, best practice and creativity that they bring.

“As a governor at the school, what really convinced me of the value of doing this was when the foundation unit showed how they would gain over 40 hours a term by using iPads for reporting and creating entries for the learning journeys – that is 40 hours to teach, do lesson plans, and focus on the development of the children.”

Pupils have been taking part in their own fundraising activities, including a two pence challenge, to boost funds for the iPads. The primary school, in March of this year, received an outstanding rating from Ofsted.
