One of Devon’s most well-known dining pubs is celebrating the start of its 29th year next month and also gearing up to reopen its doors for the first time since Christmas.
The family-run Jack in the Green at Rockbeare has been owned by Paul and Judy Parnell since May 1992. In that time the pub has been transformed from an ailing, dilapidated roadside inn into a multi accoladed dining pub that has now spent £11 million to date on locally sourced food and drink and employs 30 staff.
The team have spent the first part of 2021 sprucing up the building, enhancing the kitchen and also developing the offering inside. With a lot of interest from many of the adjoining Cranbrook residents, as well as a raft of new menus, some other exciting developments have also been introduced, including Friday Night Fizz and Saturday Brunch to help widen the pub’s appeal further.
Paul Parnell explains: “We’ve always been known for the quality of our food and that will never change. My aim this year is to really make the Jack as community focused as it can be for those on our doorstep who want somewhere friendly and welcoming to eat, drink and socialise. To help do this we’ve introduced a really tasty Saturday breakfast and brunch opening with carefully considered vegan and veggie options. If you fancy sharing a bottle of Champagne with friends on a Friday after work then we’ll provide a complimentary selection of canapes for the table. If you want lunch on a Sunday then we’ll pull out all the stops from midday until 8.30pm. We’ll also be open all day on a Friday and Saturday for food and drinks with some new additions to the bar too including Rib Tickler on draught from Sandford Orchards. The menus have also been tweaked to include more light bites and bar snacks.”
The team too has had a freshen up with Craig Griffin appointed to the role of Head Chef and his fiancée Miranda Burton to manageress at the end of last year.
The pub reopens fully on Wednesday, May 19.
