THE earliest quillers, some from 500 years ago, shaved off the gilt-edged pages of Bibles to create coils, which they formed into a cross to embellish religious hangings.Members of Honiton Craft Club enjoyed a fascinating demonstration by Joanna Purnell on what can be achieved with simple equipment used in quilling.Now a popular craft, quilling papers are readily available in a variety of widths and colours from craft shops.An inexpensive split-ended tool, or even a chopstick, can be used to coil the papers, club members were told.The club's next meeting, at the usual venue, Meadowview Chapel, King Street, will be on Wednesday, May 27, from 10am to 12 noon and new members are welcome.
