AXMINSTER'S Jobcentre will close down by the end of March. News of the closure was revealed two weeks ago as the Government's Department for Work and Pensions make cutbacks but details of the dates were confirmed last Friday. A spokesperson for the DWAP said: "The part time Axminster office will be replaced by a full service in Honiton Jobcentre Plus. We expect that Axminster jobseekers will be able to use this service by the end of March." Axminster town Mayor Graham Godbeer described the closure as "to the detriment of the town" and "extremely sad and inappropriate at a time the town is aiming to expand". Jobseekers around the Axe Valley will now have to spend much needed money to travel to and from Honiton in order to find a job. A return bus fare from Axminster to Honiton costs £2.50 while a return train fare is £3.70. Jobseekers can look for local vacancies by phoning 0845 6060234 or by visiting www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk.
