RNLI team seek a new boathouse custodian
LYME Regis lifeboat station has an opening – for a “doorman”.
RNLI officials are looking to appoint a new boathouse custodian to replace Andrew kaye, who is retiring.
One of the main duties is to open and close the station’s big double doors every day.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Grahame Forshaw said: “We pride ourselves on being an open lifeboat station and welcome the public through our doors every day of the year.
“We have worked hard on displays of fascinating items inside the station and visitors are very complimentary.”
Two years ago John ‘Mac’ Sewell retired from the custodian role, at the age of 88, and station archivist Mr Kaye took over. Now he, too, is retiring and the crew need a replacement.
Mr Forshaw added: “Ideally, it would suit someone who lives very close to the lifeboat station who could open the doors at about 10am and close them again at about 6pm.
“He or she would be welcomed as a member of the crew and would enjoy the camaraderie at the station.
“All the roles at the station are voluntary and there is always something to do to make sure we have a building to be proud of.”
