STAFFING cuts are to be made at Axe Valley Community College to save money.The Governors' Nomination Committee agreed a package of measures on Tuesday, April 21, including not replacing staff who have resigned since January and offering voluntary redundancy. The move comes after Devon was revealed as being one of the worst-funded local education authorities - receiving �359 below the national average per pupil.Head teacher Martin Smith said: "I am deeply concerned about the financial pressures that are being placed on Devon secondary schools. I am wholly supportive of the campaign to secure fair funding for children in Devon."But, he said, the reduction in staff would be low and was confident it would not impact on the quality of teaching.Graham Godbeer, chairman of governors, said: "As governors, we are deeply disappointed that we have to resort to these measures.
