There are now just over two weeks to go until this year’s Jolly Good Jaunt - a 7.5-mile sponsored walk for Hospiscare held on Sunday, October 23, at the Deer Park.

The money raised from the walk will go towards supporting Kings House Day Hospice.

The story of two fantastic Hospiscare volunteers, Kevin Chown and his sister Sandra Cligg, whose father Reg goes to Kings House, perfectly demonstrates just how important the service provided by the hospice really is.

Sandra explained: “Dad (Reg Chown) attends Kings House every Tuesday. It’s something he really looks forward to. He’s made new friends and loves to have a laugh and joke with the staff and volunteers.

“Because he goes every week, it also gives Mum a few hours’ respite from being his 24-hour carer, enabling her to have some much-needed time off.

“One of the facilities which has been great is the bath – he has been able to have a bath every week.”

Sandra added: “As a family, we all really appreciate the care that Dad receives and the friendly welcome that we all receive whenever we go to Kings House. Because of this we love to get involved!

“Last year, Kevin volunteered at the Jaunt, while my partner and I walked it together with Harry the dog. It was a lovely day and we would highly recommend it. This year we will all be there again!”
