Honiton gets ready to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The union flags are flying in Honiton and plans to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee have today (Monday) been unveiled.

The town is putting together the final touches to it’s plans for the event in June, which include a concert organised by Honiton Town Council and much more.

On Thursday, April 19, at 4pm the town’s jubilee oak will be planted in the Millennium Green by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor David Foster and will be marked by a special commemorative plaque.

On Saturday, June 2, the street market will be taking on a jubilee theme and members of the public will be given the chance to win a hamper of goods donated and sponsored by traders,

The Senior Citizens Centre will be open to all it’s members for a tea party which will include a slide show of 60 years in Honiton - courtesy of Allhallows Museum.

St Paul’s and the Baptist Church will be hosting free family tea parties as well as children’s activities.

This will be followed by a Hospiscare supper evening in the Mackarness Hall.

On Sunday, June 3, “bring your own” picnic and join the fun at Allhallows field for Honiton’s Big Lunch, which is being co-ordinated by local residents and Honiton Rugby Club.

There will also be a Evensong at St Paul’s Church.

The fun continues into Monday when Honiton Running Club will be organising sports events for children at Allhallows field.

On Tuesday, June 5, there will be an afternoon band concert and picnic at the Millennium Green.

This will be followed by a tea party on Thursday, hosted by the Memory Cafe, in the Methodist Church, for members.

To mark the Queen’s official birthday the town council has organised a concert featuring local talent at St Paul’s Church.

At the end of the month – on 29 and 30 June – Honiton will once again be holding its own Armed Forces Day, which will have a jubilee theme this year.
