A Seaton builder has created one of the five best landscaping jobs in the South West, according to judges in a competition run by Travis Perkins and fronted by television star Melinda Messenger.

Matt Cornell, who runs Cornell Construction, was selected from hundreds of entries that flooded in from customers across the region keen to give a ‘high five’ to the people who transformed their outdoor space into something special.

Matt impressed the judges with his entry, a patio area at a house at Farway to give his client a usable outside space, with materials which included black limestone. It was put together with help from freelance garden designer Alice Meacham, of Harcombe, near Lyme Regis.

Matt, 38, said: “It’s a terrific honour to be nominated by one of my customers for the work I do and then to be shortlisted as one of the top five jobs in the region. Jobs like these are a real labour of love and it’s a great feeling when you know you’re making a difference for the customer.

“Making the final of the Travis Perkins High Five contest is a badge of honour for my business.

Melinda, the UK’s much-loved presenter of Cowboy Builders, said: “Travis Perkins put the shout out to find the country’s best landscaping jobs and we’ve all been blown away by the quality of entries that have come in.

“From garden transformations to driveways and public spaces, British landscapers are coming up with creative and beautiful solutions for their clients.”

Although Matt was not the eventual winner, a company spokesman said they were delighted to have made the final five.
