Axminster Arts Café to host the works of Barbara Whitely

Axminster Arts Café is to stage an exhibition of works by Kilmington artists Barbara Whiteley, starting next week.

It will run from June 28, Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4pm, until July 30.

Barbara’s work has been exhibited in various galleries, including the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton, the Marle Gallery, Axminster, Ilminster Art Centre, and local art societies. She is best known for her vibrant still life paintings and organic unusual bone sculptures.

Barbara’s artistic work finds beauty in the everyday objects and things that most times are taken for granted. These include concepts like flow of a vase or the shape of a flower. She aims to capture the essence, not the exact true representation in her art. Colour, shape, form and design also play their part, bringing freshness to the viewer.

Barbara first made news when she beat the odds of age – she was 59 - and sickness to complete her fine arts degree in 2009, in Taunton. She now paints with a group of artists called ‘Artists in Residence’ who meet every Friday.
