A KILMINGTON man has announced his intention to represent South West people in the European Parliament.Martin Paley, a former approved Lib Dem candidate, signed up to be a potential MEP with the new Jury Team - a support network for independent people who want to stand for election to the European and Westminster Parliaments.Martin, who lives with his wife, Diane, and three children, said: "Back in 1992, when I joined the Lib Dems in order to support the call for proportional representation and fixed terms parliaments, I realised that if I was going to do something constructive about what I believed in, I should try and get my voice heard."I subsequently became an approved candidate for both Westminster and Brussels. Part of the process was to understand how Europe 'works'."Having lived and worked in Sweden and Denmark, I found this relatively easy, as the concepts are very straightforward. It is party politics that makes life difficult."Martin took early retirement from a retail career. He went on to become a support worker for people with learning difficulties and then a manager of the Citizens' Advice Bureau in Bridport. He has also been a parish councillor for 10 years. The general public will be able to vote for their chosen European Parliamentary candidate for the Jury Team by using their mobile phone.
