Colyford nature reserve walk will help people sort out their beech from their oak

Axe Valley residents are being offered the chance to learn how to identify their local trees – even in the autumn.

Without their leaves many are difficult to name like the oak, beech or sweet chestnut.

Now help is at hand. To celebrate the start of National Tree Week, the East Devon District Council Countryside team are organising a winter tree identification walk.

It takes place in Holyford Woods Local Nature Reserve near Colyford on Saturday November 23, from 10am to 12.30pm.

The walk will be led by Mike Lock of Axe Vale and District Conservation Society.

Booking is essential. Call 01395 517557 or email Countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk

People should meet at the car park opposite the water tower at the top of Seaton Down Hill – and not park at Horriford Farm.
