Whilst I am politically opposed to the leadership of East Devon District Council, the call by the Lib Dem's prospective parliamentary candidate Dr Jon Underwood for Sara Randall Johnson to quit over the cost of legal challenge to the Boundary Committee's review of Devon is seriously flawed, premature and opportunistic. If a democratically elected council feels that a consulation has not been properly carried out, and it sees that there is a threat to the democratic process, it has a duty to take legal action, the cost being secondary. Indeed, Liberal Democrat Devon County Council has already gone to court in connection with this review. I may disagree with their position, but I defend their right to go to law, if they think the process is flawed. There has been insufficent consulation, and it is appalling that there is no option, so far, to maintain the status quo.If the actions of the East Devon District Council and Sara Randall-Johnson (and DCC and Brian Greenslade) have been wrong this will be decided in the proper way at the next elections. All have a need and a right to stand on their records. This is the democratic way. Dr. Underwood's intervention smacks of support for the steamrollering tactics of Devon County Council to accrue more power without proper support.Jerry WaldenAxminster
