As a retired train driver of 50 years' experience, the Mayor of Axminster, Graham Godbeer, is wrong in stating that if the warning lights are flashing and the barriers are up it is safe to cross. It is not safe, for as soon as the lights flash it means the barriers are coming down and traffic must stop. If the barriers do not come down do not move, but telephone the signalman in case there is a fault, before proceeding. The mayor should get his facts right before printing wrong information. I am sure he would not like to be held responsible for anybody killed at these crossings.Vic RaskinTrevelyan RoadSeaton
