HONITON Senior Council is poised to add computer know-how to its abilities by taking advantage of free lessons at the town's library. After Linda Isaacson, guest speaker at the senior council's annual meeting, spelt out the many uses of computers at the library, in New Street, it was agreed six senior council members could establish a special computer literacy programme, and secretary Tony Simpson was the first to sign-up. "Online services are the future and we want to ensure senior men and women are not disadvantaged," said Mr Simpson, who has recently received a laptop from Devon County Council for his senior council work. "Many seniors already gain great benefit from computer technology and I am sure that when seniors are given the opportunity to improve their skills many others will join us," said Mr Simpson. "The great thing about a dedicated class is that people can learn together in familiar surrounding - our town library - and all will appreciate the help given by the friendly staff." Since the closing of the Age Concern lessons in the Red Cross hut, Honiton library offers the only one-to-one computer learning in the town. And, for senior residents, the training is free!
