Pet owner gets ashore safely but her animal could not be found

Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat was launched at 3.37pm yesterday(Thursday) after a report that a woman had gone into the sea off Charmouth beach to rescue a dog.

The woman made shore unaided but a search for the Jack Russel, called Millie, by the lifeboat and the coastguard helicopter – which was already on exercise – proved fruitless, and the lifeboat was stood down at 4.16pm.
