AS Lyme Regis pulled out all of the stops to support its annual Lifeboat Week, the RNLI in the resort was responding to emergencies.

Lyme Regis Lifeboat was launched three times during the week of events.

A fishing boat reported a kayak had been seen sinking and the Pearl of Dorset lifeboat was launched at 7.54pm last Friday (July 24).

A thorough search of Black Venn and the Charmouth area revealed nothing and the mission was called off at 8.20pm, with the agreement of Portland Coastguard.

On Saturday (July 25), the lifeboat was launched twice.

A canoe capsized, leaving its occupant in the water, shortly before 1.17pm.

Stuart Line cruise ship, The Pride of Exmouth, picked up the casualty.

Eye witnesses have praised the cruise ship's skipper for his prompt action.

Later, a small inflatable boat drifted from a pool of water behind the resort's harbour.

The boat, which was fitted with an outboard motor, broke loose close to the pontoon and drifted a quarter of a mile to the Black Venn area before it was taken, in tow, back to Lyme Regis Harbour by the lifeboat.
